Details of current and past work being accomplished as dictated by the LORP work plan

  • BLACKROCK WATERFOWL AREA Construction crews are completing corridors and ditches and testing the system.
  • PUMP STATION - The contractor (Kiewit Pacific) is still on-site working out the bugs in the system. Pumping capability has been attained.
  • DEBRIS REMOVAL - LADWP construction crews, with assistance from CDF inmate crews, are burning salt cedar slash piles.
  • FENCING - Riparian fencing efforts are on-going.
  • FLOWS - We are currently releasing 60 cfs from the Intake. LADWP hydrographers are in the process of calibrating flow meters and establishing reliable communications from remote measuring stations. Phase I flows have been exceeded and we are working to stabilize the system to meet Phase II (baseflow) obligations.

  • BLACKROCK WATERFOWL AREA - Goose Lake and Twin Lake corridors are complete. The final water control structures have been formed and are ready to be poured next week.
  • PUMP STATION - Pump tests are scheduled to begin this weekend.
  • DEBRIS REMOVAL - Currently an LADWP helicopter is assisting with removal of floating salt cedar slash and removal of other woody debris in the newly wetted section of the river.
  • FENCING - Fencing efforts are on-going. 17 miles of fencing has been completed to date.
  • FLOWS - We are currently releasing 18 cfs from the Intake. The entire river system is wet and we are in the process of calibrating all riverine measuring stations.

  • THE INTAKE STRUCTURE The railcar bridge has been installed. The bridge approaches will be complete by 9/2/2006. Additional concrete work is in progress for the access ramp, and the pad for the flow velocity meter. Scheduled work at the Intake is 97% complete with remaining work to be completed by early November.
  • CHANNEL CLEARING The initial two miles of river channel have been cleared.
  • CHANNEL OBSTRUCTIONS Five of the six channel obstructions scheduled to be removed for the LORP have been completed. The bridge foundation south of Mazourka Cyn Road is in the process of being modified.
  • BLACKROCK WATERFOWL AREA Designated work is 50% complete. Berm work is 80% complete. Staff gages need to be placed, water control structures need to be installed and some minor ditch work is scheduled.
  • MEASURING STATIONS Blackrock, Georges and Reinhackle measuring stations are complete with the exception of placement of electronics. Electronics will be placed just prior to initial flows. Keeler Bridge measuring station is approximately 60% complete. Work is scheduled for completion by mid-September. The two temporary measuring stations in the delta will be installed late September or early October.
  • PUMP STATION LADWP contractor Kiewit Pacific Co. has completed 50% of the concrete placement for the top deck of the pump station structure. The pump station concrete work is approximately 90% complete. Progress continues on the air chamber. 60% of the concrete has been placed. The 24’ diameter steel sphere is scheduled for installation in early October. The customer station was energized on 7/18/2006. Powerline installation for the pump station is complete. The settling basin is complete. Permanent service roads on the East and West sides are under construction and approximately 70% complete. The Langemann gate has arrived and is scheduled for installation during September.
  • BEAVER DAM REMOVALS No dam removals are scheduled at this time.

  • THE INTAKE STRUCTURE - LADWP Construction forces have completed the concrete floor of the lined channel and the 12’7” walls. The sloped channel is complete. Construction crews have completed all shot-crete work.The rail car bridge is scheduled to be installed by mid-July. The Langemann gate has arrived and is installed.Scheduled work at the Intake is 95% complete with remaining work to be completed as runoff activities cease.
  • CHANNEL CLEARING - The initial two miles of river channel have been cleared.Temporary access roads have been lightly disced and seeded to facilitate revegetation, taking advantage of recent rains. These roads are closed to vehicular traffic.
  • CHANNEL OBSTRUCTIONS - Five of the six channel obstructions scheduled to be removed for the LORP have been completed. The bridge foundation south of Mazourka Cyn Road is in the process of being modified.
  • BLACKROCK WATERFOWL AREA - Designated work is 50% complete.Work is temporarily suspended due to runoff. Work will resume shortly as spreading operations wind down, and will be completed prior to initial releases.
  • MEASURING STATIONS - Measuring station near Blackrock ditch is complete with the exception of placement of electronics. Electronics will be placed just prior to initial flows. Reinhackle springs measuring station has began. Work has temporarily been suspended due to runoff. Work will resume shortly as spreading operations wind down, and will be completed prior to initial releases.
  • PUMP STATION - LADWP contractor Kiewit Pacific Co. has completed the slab for the 50 cfs pump station sump floor and all walls. Structural backfill has begun. False work installation is in progress for the top deck. First pour for the top deck is scheduled for the week of July 20th. Excavation is complete for the air chamber and approximately 50% of the protection slab and two of the three main slabs have been poured. Air chamber walls are being formed. The 36” pipe is installed between the pump station and air chamber.The permanent diversion structure earth work is complete. Sheet piling placement is approximately 30% complete. Diversion structure floor and walls have been placed. Top deck slab will be poured the week of July 20th which will complete the concrete work for the diversion structure.Settling basin is complete.Permanent service roads on the East and West sides are under construction. Excavation and backfill are 70% complete.The Langemann gate has arrived and is scheduled for installation during July.LADWP Intergrated Support Services (ISS) crews began construction of the Industrial Station. Underground conduits are installed and they are placing rock subgrade.
  • POWER LINE - Power pole placement is in progress to provide power to the pump station. Power will be on-site by mid September.BEAVER
  •  DAM REMOVALS - Beaver dams were removed in the Islands area July 5th. No future dam removals are scheduled at this time.

  • THE INTAKE STRUCTURE LADWP Construction forces have completed the concrete floor of the lined channel and the 12'7” walls. The sloped channel is 50% complete and concrete pours will continue next week. Construction crews are shot-creting the rear wall of the spillway and will have the wall completed by June 10, 2006.  The west bridge abutment has been poured and the forms will be stripped Monday June 12 th . The east bridge abutment is being formed and is scheduled to pour the week of June 12 th . The rail car bridge is scheduled to be installed by mid-July. The Langemann gate has arrived and installation will begin mid-June.

  • PUMP STATION LADWP contractor Kiewit Pacific Co. has completed the slab for the 50 cfs pump station sump floor and all walls. Structural backfill had begun. Excavation is complete for the air chamber and approximately 50% of the protection slab and two of the three main slabs have been poured. Air chamber walls are being formed. The permanent diversion structure earth work is complete. Sheet piling placement is approximately 30% complete. Diversion structure floor and walls have been placed. The concrete spillway weir is scheduled for completion the week of June 12, 2006. Rip-rap placement for the diversion structure has began. Settling basin is complete. Permanent service roads on the East and West sides are under construction. Excavation and backfill are 70% complete. The Langemann gate has arrived and is scheduled for installation during July. LADWP Intergrated Support Services (ISS) crews will begin construction of the Industrial Station the week of June 12, 2006.
  • BEAVER DAM REMOVALS Three Beaver dams were removed in the Reinhackle spring area May 23 rd and 24 th . No future dam removals are scheduled at this time.
